“Getting Ready of Big School”
The Goal of this area is to provide children and their parents with the information and resources they need to successfully prepare for entrance into kindergarten and the public school system. The following services help kids and families prepare for experiences beyond Head Start:
- sharing information with school (with parents consent)
- newsletters and brochures on school readiness issues
- encourage parent involvement in school activities
- on-going discussion with schools and how Head Start can better prepare children for success
- parent and children advocacy through the second grade

HEALTH AND NUTRITION
“Is There Anything More Important to a Parent then Having a Healthy, Happy Child?”
Head Start emphasizes the importance of early identification of health problems. Each child is provided with a full range of medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional services which include:
- vision, hearing, and speech and language screenings
- a physical examination
- a dental examination
- nutritional meals for children and nutrition education for parents

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
“Parenting with Parents for Success”
Head Start recognizes and respects the parents at the primary educator of their child and the most important influence on their lives.
Parent involvement is encouraged at all levels and especially:
- by helping make important decisions on how the program should be run
- by participating in programs for parents
- by volunteering in the classrooms or other activities
- by providing employment opportunities for parents

FAMILY SERVICES
“Families, a Foundation of Strength and love”
Family services staff offer support and guidance to families in dealing with their needs. Our goal is to help each family build on its own strengths to bring about an improved quality of life.
Family Services are provided through:
- information about available community resources
- direct referrals to agencies/services
- emergency assistance/crisis intervention
- advocating for families

FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES TOO!
“Special Needs – Special Kids”
At least 10% of enrollment opportunities are made available to children with special needs. Children with physical disabilities health conditions, vision, hearing, speech or developmental delays have the opportunity to participate in all Head Start activities. Head Start staff work closely with parents, professionals, and other agencies to make sure children with special needs receive all necessary services.
Activities and resources are provided to help children with disabilities develop to their full potential.
All Services are provided regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, ancestry, union membership, or any other legally protected classification. There is no discrimination in admission policies, meals served, or the use of facilities.
